Beyond Dementia Exhibition: Living Well After a Dementia Diagnosis
Venue: The Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Rd, Manchester M15 6ER
Fabulous Forgetful Friends, a local Dementia group coordinated by Manchester-based charity Together Dementia Support, will curate an exhibition on living well after a Dementia diagnosis. Fabulous Forgetful Friends is a peer support group which empowers local people living with Dementia. Whilst providing a platform to raise awareness on the issues surrounding Dementia, the group aims to make a positive impact on their local community by improving public services and making them more Dementia friendly.
The Beyond Dementia launch evening takes place at 6pm on Thursday 27th July, which will mark the start of the the exhibition that runs until the 17th September. The exhibition and its activities focus on living beyond Dementia and the importance of creativity and active citizenship for those living with a diagnosis.
The launch evening will be an opportunity to meet the Fabulous Forgetful Friends, view their artwork and get a sneak preview of the exhibition at the Whitworth. Together in Song: Dementia Gospel Choir will perform at 6.15pm and 7.15pm.
Beyond Dementia will feature:
- Artist Workshops to explore the benefits of creativity to health and well-being,
- Film Screenings,
- Exhibition talks,
- 'Mindfulness for Carers' sessions,
- Opportunities to take part in Dementia Friend Training sessions.
