Sustainability Seminar Series: Urban Data Justice
Venue: University Place 2.220, 176 Oxford Road, Manchester
The next seminar in the sustainability seminar series takes place on 25 April, 12-2pm in University Place room 2.220.
This month’s topic is Urban Data Justice where guest speakers Richard Heeks (UoM), Satyarupa Shekhar (Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group, Chennai) and Julian Tait (CEO, Open Data Manchester) will present and lead the discussion.
A New Perspective on the Smart Sustainable City Agenda?
Smart city discourse and practice is on the rise globally with trends include the datafication of urban decision making. But adding in a concern for sustainability raises questions of what this datafication means for those already marginalised within the physical cities of the global South. Will they become further excluded: absent or mis-represented from the city’s “data twin”? Or can they be positively incorporated into datafication?
Registration and further information is available on the seminar page
