Draft Intention to Submit Deadline: 1st November 2016, 12:00

Funding Available: £7-10 million

The EPSRC Healthcare Technologies theme has opened a second round of applications to the Healthcare Technologies Challenge awards. This call is designed to create ‘a cohort of the most promising future leaders who will develop new research capabilities across the EPSRC portfolio to address unmet clinical needs’.

The Challenge Awards scheme is designed to enable early career researchers (ECR's) (academics that have held a permanent academic position in an eligible institution for a maximum of 8 years at the closing date for full proposal) to develop a personal programme of high quality, creative, and multidisciplinary research, and to build and grow their research group. A budget of £7-10m has been allocated to support 7 to 10 projects.

Applicants wishing to apply to the call are required to submit an Intention to Submit (IoS) proforma to the EPSRC which will be used to ensure that their proposals fit the call. Prior to submitting an IoS, applicants must ensure that they have the full support of their university.

As each IoS requires the University to provide significant and sustained support aligned to the award, the Vice-Deans for Research and Innovation of both Faculties, Sciences and Engineering (FSE) and Biology, Medicine and Health Sciences (FBMH) will maintain oversight of the number and quality of IoS and the level of support required.

Please send your draft IoS to Ania Jolly ( of the FBMH Strategic funding team by 12h00 on Tuesday 1st November, who will coordinate review by an internal panel that will assess the IoS and flag any general issues prior submission to EPSRC.

Details of the call are available here.
