The University of Manchester five-year Neighbourhoods & Dementia research study is in the process of developing a linguistically appropriate and culturally sensitive personalised digitised life story tool for use by and with Deaf sign language users living with dementia. The work focuses on Deaf people who use British Sign Language (BSL) who are living with dementia and their families and care partners, many of whom may also be Deaf.
The project will explore the utility of the tool in different settings from diverse perspectives (both professional and family/care partners). Finally, use of the tool by Deaf people who are living with dementia and their carers/family and professionals will be tested for acceptability and feasibility.
This study is jointly funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
