What is CityVerve?
CityVerve is Innovate UK’s Internet of Things (IoT) demonstrator project that aims to utilise innovative technologies to create a smarter, healthier Manchester.
What does 'BeeActive' mean?
The BeeActive project is coordinated by the University of Manchester and is part of CityVerve’s Health and Social care theme. The BeeActive app has been designed to help app users achieve their daily activity goals and is free to download on to your smartphone.
Who can use the app?
Anybody can! We’d especially like to invite people who live, work and study on the Oxford Road corridor in Manchester. Particularly students and staff from the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester City Council, Manchester Science Partnerships, Central Manchester Foundation Trust, Royal Northern College of Music.
How does it work?
Once you’ve downloaded the app, BeeActive will use IoT technology to pull together weather, location, traffic and transport information to provide app users with personalised suggestions, or ‘nudges,’ to encourage you to incorporate a little more walking and activity into your daily routine. App users will be able to take part in ‘missions’ or activities such as cultural walks around Manchester taking part in our uniquely designed BeeActive Manchester Bee Walk, lunchtime strolls and lifestyle activities near the workplace.
The app will be able to make suggestions to encourage exercise such as ‘get off the bus a few stops early- walk to work because it is a clear dry day and the traffic is heavy so it will take less time if you walk.’
Look out for the BeeActive app which will be free to download from the Google Play and Apple App Store soon!
